MATCH REPORT | HULL KR ROUND 5 | SUPER LEAGUE

Huddersfield Giants lost out 12-24 to a determined Hull KR side on Saturday afternoon at the John Smith's Stadium.

In an evenly poised match, with both Giants and Hull KR with the same record coming into this game, it was the visitors that opened the scoring early on.

Joe Burgess crossed the line after smart work from a scrum, Sam Halsall knocking on a high kick which led to the head and feed.

Ian Watson’s men were looking to show their attacking fluency that saw them post 50 points last week, but during a stuttering half, littered with errors, they struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities.

As the Giants knocked on deep in KR territory, the visitors were awarded a penalty, and this gave them field position to claim the second try.

After some good defence from Huddersfield, they claimed the ball back, however Sam Halsall was pushed back into his own in-goal area and couldn’t hold onto the ball, which saw Jez Litten double the KR advantage.

The Giants had their chances, but errors on the visitor’s line from Esan Marsters and Jack Murchie stopped any momentum and points being posted, leaving the scores at 0-8 going into the break.

It only got worse for the Giants soon into the second half, however as Hull KR found the try line again, through Peta Hiku who crossed for his first of the game, another one would come soon after in a miserable first half.

KR probed the Giants defensive line and broke through with Niall Evalds who sent a looping pass back inside, with Adam Swift in his best efforts knocking the ball back to Peta Hiku who scored.

Another came for the visitors through Ryan Hall, scoring in the corner and wrapping up the game with fifteen minutes to go.

Ian Watson’s men got two consolation tries, through Kevin Naiqama and Adam Swift, Jake Connor converting both to give us twelve points on the board.

It was a third defeat of the season for Huddersfield, as KR ran out 12-24 winners.
